Fashion in the Sand- Return of the 80′s

Yup, who would have thought an era I grew up in would be considered vintage now. And a really awful fashion era at that, the 80′s. Big hair, neon colors, shoulder pads, cut up sweatshirts, jazz shoes, Ray Bans. Some of these things are coming back around quite strong and I see teenagers thinking “OOOOH how cool”. I’m thinking “Not again”. But when you can’t beat ‘em…you may as well join them wearing the best of what is being offered.

I love the neon nail polish by Essie. On toes ONLY! A neon colored belt in leather or webbing. I have found them in all widths. My two faves are a skinny from J.Crew and a wider from American Eagle Outfitters. Also a watch can add a flash of color. Yellow watch by Nixon at Air and Speed surf shop in Montauk. Of course stripes are every where. If you wear your stripes in black and white it is more 80′s punk. Especially with a pair of black Converse sneakers, thank you Joey Ramone.

My most favorite thing yet is a pair of NAVY BLUE Ray Bans my friend Edie has been sporting. They are so cool, laid back and completely different. Of course I went out and found a similar navy frame from Aspen Optical in East Hampton. So far no one has really complimented the look but I feel very cool. Sort of Geek Chic.

I can not recommend any jazz shoes since they gave me hives then and give me hives now.  Many designers tried to trot out shoulder pads last year. It did not seem to catch on too well. I will leave it at that. Don’t try putting them in your T-shirts again. That is best left in the past.  Big hair + Aqua Net. Never again.

Cut up sweat shirts leave to the teenagers. A great look but NOT on an adult. If you want to rock the Flash Dance look find a wide neck T-shirt and sling it off a shoulder. Please do not show us your bra strap!

Looking forward to a great summer of fashion!
