5 Great Beaches in Montauk

1. Kirk Beach- Ocean Beach right across from Kirk Park, also known as IGA Beach.  This beach is in town so you could walk to stores.  Lifeguards are on duty in season, parking fee $6, bathrooms open in season.

2. Town Beach (Also know as Nick’s Beach)- parking permit required but many people park on the sides of the   nearby roads.  No permanent bathrooms; porto-potties.  Nick’s is right off the beach- have a bite to eat and hear some live music.  It’s a little less crowded if you walk or park down the road going east to the next entrance right next to the Surf Club.

3. Ditch Plains Beach-  known as a surfers beach.  About two miles outside of town.  There are three parking lots- all require a EH Beach Permit.  Bathrooms and snack bar located in the first parking lot, Ditch Witch (breakfast and lunch) located in second parking lot and the third lot is a dirt lot but close to a good break point. Lifeguards on duty beyond the first parking lot.  To the right of the first parking lot there is a hiking trail that will bring you along the dunes and cliffs into Shadmore.

4. South Lake-  About a mile outside of town, next left after Old West Lake.   Nice beach for younger children because no ocean waves or currents  (Lake Montauk) but no lifeguards on duty.  Bathrooms in parking lot.  EH Town Sticker required.

5. Gin Beach- At the end of East Lake Drive which is about 3 miles outside of town.  A great beach for young children because it’s on Block Island Sound.  Lifeguards on duty, bathrooms in parking lot.  EH Town Sticker required.  Harbor Jetties on the West End of beach is great for cast fishing.  Gin Beach Market and Snack Bar also there for great food and snacking.
