Enjoy the music.
It’s that time of year again folks! If you have not been in Montauk recently, the streets are all a buzz with business constructions and renovations taking place to update some long standing traditions and bring in the new businesses as well. The warm weather has brought people outside and enjoying the tennis courts, playgrounds, softball fields, trails and beaches.
The informal first kick off to the season in Montauk is traditionally the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 25th at 10 am this year.
Congratulations to this year’s Grand Marshal, Mickey Valcich.
The parade begins at the Montauk Firehouse about 1 1/2 miles outside of town. If you will be in town you can expect it to reach you between 11:00-11:30 but get there early, the curbs fill up quickly.
Here’s some KidMontauk sneak peaks into this years themes: Look out for the Funk Squad by Montauk Youth and the Mtk School, The Community Garden will be hosting there kid-friendly farm, and I’ve heard rumors that Elvis will have left the building “so to speak”. Every year, the local community is joined by marching bands and fire departments from Mtk to NYC. It’s a fun event and not to be missed- the kids really love catching the potpourri of beads and candy.
Also note that the Chamber will be selling local restaurant Clam Chowders beginning at 9 am so get there early and enjoy a cup.
I am thankful for my wonderful children who remind me of what is most important in life on a daily basis. I am also thankful for my family, friends and this wonderful community in Montauk.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend. Please check out the calendar of events! Lot’s going on in and around Montauk.
If you’re a parent, you know what the “negotiations” or rules that have to be set are like with our children after Halloween. We usually have at least one melt down but funny enough my other daughter prefers to inventory, color code and look at her candy for months to come. Or at least she has me believing that.
Another option is to have your child donate some or all of their candy this year. Here is a list of organizations that accept candy and care packages:

This is the weekend my children look forward to all year long. When they see the carousel being put together this Friday, I know they will be squealing with delight! The Harvest Festival runs from 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday. There are jumpy castle type rides, face art, sand art, pumpkin painting, food and drink, live music and the famous Clam Chowder Contest. If you want to miss the crowds, try to go early or late. Last year I wound up writing my cell phone number on my daughter’s arm because it was so crowded.
