Celebrate Father’s Day in Montauk

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Whether Dad is into outdoor adventures, artistic endeavors or just enjoys reading a good book or the paper, there are so many wonderful ways to celebrate father’s day in Montauk.

Here’s 10 things you can do for Dad to make his day extra special:
1- Book a fishing charter on the Masterpiece and enjoy a family day on the water.
2. Take a sail on the Maui with Montauk Sailing Adventures.
3- Book an afternoon with Montauk Adventures and learn about the history and best kept secrets of Mtk.
4- Take him to brunch at Sole East with live Brazilian Music.
5- Reserve a Sunset Dinner with Live Music at Navy Beach so the kids could play on the beach while you dine outdoors.
6- Treat him to his next read at the Montauk Book Shop.  Pick up the Times for him there too.
7- Pack the fishing poles and a picnic and head out to the Lighthouse or his favorite fishing spot.
8- Book him some time on the Montauk Downs Golf Course or Down’s Tennis Courts.
9- Head down to Pier Group Men’s Store at Gosman’s and outfit him in some nice new threads.
10- Give him some surfing time and meet him at the Ditch Witch for a yummy breakfast or lunch.  Get him a new wet suit at Sunset Surf Shack.

From their they proceed through the channel and out of the harbor where  wreaths are placed in the water in remembrance of those lost at sea. Some great places to bring the children to see the full event are Gosman’s Dock, Gin Beach and Inlet Restaurant and .

Here Comes Summer!

On Tuesday, we were still a bit bundled up in Montauk saying that a year past, we were already on stand up paddle boards and jumping in Navy Road Beach for a swim.  Two days ago I had no idea that just the next day, my girls would be suited up on Navy Road, covered in SPF 50 from head to toe and swimming in the water!  Fun was had by all on this unexpected summer day.

Skinny Jeans Gone Bad

I recently got to go into NYC for a day. I was in the Chelsea neighbor hood visiting a friend. I was shocked that EVERYONE was wearing skinny jeans. Men and women and everyone in between. This has gone too far. Men should NOT wear skinny jeans unless they are under 25 and ride a skate board or they are over 25 and truly are rock stars. Otherwise wear a narrow leg but not one that causes me to stop and wonder how on earth did you get your big feet through those little openings. This terrible trend is creeping out here too. I saw a few men in tights in a favorite lunch spot. I was shocked. They looked so silly. As for the ladies the same holds. Jeans should have some room around the ankle. They are NOT leggings they are jeans. I tried on a pair and was really wondering what had happened to fit. The legs were so thin and the waist so big. Who was this for?

Mother’s Day in Montauk

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Ok, with Mother’s Day just a little over one week away, this is your time to really think about what it is that you desire (and possibly greatly need!) right now.  Dad, if you’re reading this, just put yourself in your wife’s shoes and this may save you some time and worry about what to do.

So, what do you really need?  Some time alone or a spa treatment?  A yoga class or time to get in the water?  Don’t worry, you will have time with your children, just try to think about yourself for a moment.  Do you want to shop, read the paper, sit quietly on the beach for a little while?

I asked some moms what their ideal Mother’s Day in Montauk would be and each one had some alone time on their wish list. (more…)
