Sign Your Kids Up For Surf Craft
Thursday, June 10th, 2010
Have you heard about Surf Craft? If you haven’t, I’m sure you will be hearing much more about it soon.
What is it? Surf Craft is a two hour drop-off summer program for kids ages 4-10. Each Surf Craft session incorporates an enriching theme, arts and crafts, upbeat socialization, and a healthy snack. The curriculum is interdisciplinary and exploratory, connecting your child’s creative side with skill building in literacy, cultural and environmental awareness. They offer an innovative, organized opportunity for children to engage their fine motor skills while jamming by the beach!
Where and when is Surf Craft offered? Surf Craft will be at some of the hottest and most fun places to be in Montauk this summer! With scheduled drop and dines and happy hour time slots set at Sole East, Navy Beach, Surf Lodge and Montauk Yacht Club, you cannot go wrong by making your children happy crafting and making new friends while you relax with down time to eat, swim, read or whatever suits your fancy!
Who started Surf Craft? Jodi Jefferson, mother of two and Early Childhood educated, is the founder of Surf Craft. She is someone you can trust to leave your children with.
Fashion in the Sand-Beachy Bedrooms
Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
As usual I was walking around town being a tourist taking in all the new retail spaces in Montauk. There is so much to look at and BUY this season! I have been wanting to update my younger daughter’s room. Typical of being a second child close behind the first I never really had time to decorate her room. The rug is from the living room, the pictures on the wall are moved around from other places in the house, and the paint was never refreshed. She keeps asking for a rainbow sparkle with hearts paint job. Sounds like a bad trip paint job to me.
As I was walking around, I came to Gansett Lane. This is their second season in Montauk. It is a wonderful home shop filled with all sorts of decorating pieces from gorgeous couches to VERY AFFORDABLE water goblets. There is quite an extensive section for kids. I immediately saw the remedy to my daughter’s blah room! A new woven cotton rug in pale aqua and lavender stripes! The best was it was only about $200 for a 6×9 rug. This is a steal for such a large rug. I quickly purchased it, brought it home, and put it down in place of the old one. WOW! What a wonderful difference. It made the room bright, fresh, and so beachy. We all love it. She did say that she was expecting a new paint job when I told her to go see the surprise in her room. Oh, well. Such is life with Little Ones!

Poison Dart Frogs in Montauk
Friday, June 19th, 2009
You can either go to the Museum of Natural History to see their current exhibition on Poison Dart Frogs or go right here in Montauk to Fort Pond Native Plants. Owner and frog collector and enthusiast, Jimmy Grimes, has built two solariums to display and keep his multi-specie and colored frogs with one housing over 33 frogs and the other with some tree frogs as well. The tanks are large and beautiful with tropical landscaping and light. Mr. Grimes advised that during different times of day you could hear different sounds made by the several species with mid afternoon always being an interesting time because the frogs come out to eat. Make Some Art with Found Objects
Monday, April 20th, 2009
In celebration of Earth Day, have your children (and yourself!) create a piece of art that has a pledge of how they will be good to the Earth this year. Use magazine cut outs to make a collage. It’s fun and a good way of recognizing some things we could do for the earth and gain ownership of it.
You can also collect things found in nature (but be aware that taking rocks and sand from the beaches here is illegal) and make a collage or sculpture!
Kids and adults alike enjoyed this activity at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center this past Saturday during their Earth Day celebration. All pledges will be compiled into a paper quilt that you can go see hanging in the Montauk Playhouse.
