Another option is to have your child donate some or all of their candy this year. Here is a list of organizations that accept candy and care packages:
Operation Gratitude sends care packages to our troops overseas and you and your children can add a letter of support! You just pay to ship to California, but an extra $11 donation covers overseas postage. But keep in mind the non-melty stuff is best, or if you send chocolate, you might want to put it in a Zip-Loc first.

Any Soldier will also let you donate candy, and you can even specify which armed service branch, if you have a preference. Another option is Operation Shoebox.

Ronald McDonald House Charities accepts candy donation for kids.

The Harvest Festival runs from 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday. There are jumpy castle type rides, face art, sand art, pumpkin painting, food and drink, live music and the famous Clam Chowder Contest. If you want to miss the crowds, try to go early or late. Last year I wound up writing my cell phone number on my daughter’s arm because it was so crowded.

There are less crowds, less cars and a much more laid back vibe but there is plenty going on. It seems that everybody begins to move at a slower pace with more smiles and patience.

The kids are back to school and so there are weekday spaces at the beaches and even still on the weekends. With school comes all the new offererings of sports and family programs from Montauk Youth and Ballet is back from the Hampton Ballet Theater Company. Take a look at the calendar of events and more importantly….relax…

Hand bag, belt, and shoes MUST match. NEVER wear navy and black together. And most of all NEVER EVER WEAR WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY. Except of course if you are the bride and then never wear white to a wedding UNLESS you ARE the bride.

However times have changed. We wear all colors all mixed up. Women ask men out. So go ahead and wear white ALL YEAR LONG! I do. I love white or pastel corduroys with a creamy white cashmere sweater. A crisp white shirt is always in style a la Carolina Herrera. Of course you can not wear white floaty dresses in the middle of winter. It looks strange. But some women can even pull that off. The weight of the fabric must be for that season. That is the key to wearing white and any other color during any season. You would never wear black linen pants in the snow? But you wear black linen all summer, don’t you? Same applies to white. Even white shoes are fine. I love white patent leather flats or booties with black jeans. So chic, so 60′s, so COOL! So go ahead and try white after you leave Monatuk and head back home.

It is the SHOE SALE! HURRY! I think I have some space to put a few more pairs. Hmmmmm what do I need. Need?!&^$@$#@ I WANT more shoes. Always. Guess what? You too can get more shoes for cheap at the Shoe-In shoe sale in Amagansett at the American Legion. It’s right across the highway from Brent’s Deli. I am sure you have seen the huge poster hung up on the fence. I can’t tell you how many pairs of great shoes I have bought there. It is definitely something I look forward to every summer. If you are around into next week wait and go Monday the 22nd. They will have BOOTS and HANDBAGS!

I have a few shopping tips:

- Do NOT take your kids. Shoes require all your attention. It is very tight between all the tables filled with shoes. You can’t be chasing kids and shoes.

- Buy your size! Don’t think the shoes will stretch. They never do. All you get is vicious blisters. Your feet will not grow into them either like your kids.

- Do not buy the crazy pink polka dot feather embellished shoes that you may wear next summer – you won’t.

- If you never wear heels you are not going to start now.

- If you never wear flats you should start. Especially if you have kids.

- If you see a basic pump that will go with everything and you do not have a good basic pump BUY THEM! They won’t go bad.

- If you see your favorite shoes in brown that you already wear to death in black BUY THEM!

- Don’t hyper ventilate. In through the nose out through the mouth.

Have fun shopping.
